Darlene Dzendoletas MSW RSWMy experience as a therapist now expands over 3 decades!  With that said, I feel privileged to have found a vocation that for the most part brings me a true sense of purpose and enjoyment. Over the years, I have been committed to working with individuals, couples and families in a variety of clinical settings.  As a Clinical Social Worker I have worked in the specialty areas of Obstetrics, Midlife, Infertility, Pelvic Health, Sexual Dysfunction, Family Therapy, Pediatrics and Trauma. I established my private practice located in Central Toronto in 2004.

MY APPROACH:

My approach to therapy involves not only drawing from clinical training but using my intuition and creativity to guide the work I do with individuals and couples. I see therapy as an art!  My approach continues to evolve over time.  I have a passionate interest in attachment and mindfulness-based therapeutic approaches and this is reflective in my current work with clients.

I am a Certified Emotionally Focused Couple’s Therapist (ICEEFT), Registered Sex Therapist with the Board of Examiners of Sex Therapists and Counsellors of Ontario (BESTCO) and an Eye Movement, Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapist.

My experience with mindfulness-based approaches draws from my trainings in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and as a facilitator of Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) groups along with my ongoing commitment to my personal meditation practice and spiritual path.  While I make use of largely evidence-based approaches to therapy I am open-minded and also draw on alternative methods of healing.

CONSULTATION/COLLABORATION:

As a practitioner for many years, I know how important it is to have access to a network of professionals that can offer consultation and who can be available for referrals. Individuals seeking therapy, at times, require a team approach to deal with life circumstances. I collaborate with physicians, psychiatrists and other health practitioners to ensure an overall effective treatment plan.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:

I have been fortunate to have trained and worked with many talented teachers, supervisors and colleagues and continue to do so along the course of my career. My professional development is essential and an important responsibility to ensure I provide the highest quality of care and continue to grow as a therapist.

I have found participating in my own personal therapy at different times in my life to be rewarding and just as important as ongoing training. I believe this process has placed me in a better place to help others.
